Along with your personal wedding planner, this quick guide to wedding traditions will help your big day to run smoothly.

Toasts and speeches
*
Speeches are an important part of every wedding. These should be brief, sincere and to the point.

Traditionally, the bride's father or an old family friend will propose a toast to the health of the bride and groom. The bridegroom then replies and thanks the bride's parents for giving the wedding. If his parents have contributed, he should also thank them. If he and the bride have paid for the wedding themselves, both sets of parents should be thanked for their time and help.

The bridegroom then thanks all the guests for their presence and gifts, and proposes a toast to all the attendants. The best man will respond on their behalf and conclude by reading any messages or cards received.

Flowers
*
A gift of flowers for the mothers of the bride and groom is traditionally made during the groom's speech. We can arrange a bouquet to suit your budget – please contact your wedding organiser for more details.

Top table
*
If you choose a seating arrangement with a 'top table', the following diagram showing the traditional layout may be useful.
